Hotel operations health check

The hotel operations health check is a 10-question self-assessment of how work moves through your hotel: handover, rooms, people, cost, and data and tools. It gives a score out of 100, shows your biggest gap, and suggests three fixes that work without any software.

Answer for how things really run on an ordinary Tuesday, not how the manual says they should. It takes about three minutes.

Written by the founder of Vedom, who is building it with ten founding hotels. Last updated:

A self-assessment, not an audit or advice.

Handover

01How does the next shift find out what is still open?
02A guest complains at 23:00. How sure are you it is followed up the next morning?

Rooms

03How does the front desk know a room is ready for arrival?
04Do you know how many rooms each attendant cleans per shift?

People

05How does a new colleague learn the room standard?
06How are the rota, hours worked and tips recorded?

Cost

07Do you know last month’s labour cost per occupied room?
08How is next week’s staffing planned?

Data and tools

09Where does day-to-day information live?
10When someone leaves, what happens to their access and to work information on their phone?

How is the score worked out?

  • There are two questions for each of five areas. Each answer scores 0 to 3 points, from the first option to the last.
  • Your score is your points divided by 30, times 100, rounded. Each area’s bar is its two answers out of 6 points.
  • Your biggest gap is the area with the lowest bar. If two areas tie, the one listed first wins.
  • The check runs in your browser. It sends nothing and stores nothing. A copied link carries your answers after the #, which browsers never send to a server.

Questions

Is this an audit?

No. It is a self-assessment: your own answers, scored the same way for everyone. It is not advice and it does not check anything.

Does a high score mean my hotel runs well?

It means the basics that make shifts predictable are in place. It says nothing about guest satisfaction, revenue or your team’s skill.

Why is there no comparison with other hotels?

Because comparing needs other hotels’ answers, and this check stores none. Your own score, repeated in three months, is the useful comparison.

Vedom is in build

Where to next?

This is the paper version. Vedom is being built as one place for the work on every shift, with access that ends when someone leaves.

  • I run a hotel

Put your hotel forward for one of ten founding places. Shape how it’s built, and go live first. Founding pilots are targeting early 2027.

  • I work on the floor

See the phone app as it is designed, with example data. Nothing to sign up for. If you like it, tell your manager.

  • I build hotel software

See the API before it opens. It’s included in every plan.
